Qualifications

  • Experience coaching adolescent age students in competitive sports.
  • Completion of required Rhode Island coaching certifications.
  • Must obtain updated National and State BCI Check and First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • NFHS Coaching courses completed and maintained annually.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches individual participants, small groups and teams in lacrosse skills.
  • Supervises team members and team activities at all times.
  • Knows and applies RI Interscholastic League Regulations and district policies.
  • Monitors academic performance and emphasizes academics alongside athletics.
  • Acts as a role model demonstrating respect for officials and teammates under pressure.
  • Works with athletic director and other coaches on scheduling practices and games.
  • Informs athletic director about facility, equipment, and uniform conditions.
  • Communicates team updates and issues with the athletic director.
  • Notifies athletic director about safety concerns and potential risks.
  • Delegates coaching tasks to assistants and volunteers.

Job Description

FUNCTION: The Coach helps each participating student achieve a high level of skill and an increased appreciation for the values of discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic performance. The Coach is dedicated to developing a successful team and the individual student athlete, considering not only win/lose records but specifically focusing on achieving personal growth through athletic participation and competition.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director, and Principal

ANTICIPATED DUTIES:

  1. Coaches individual participants, small groups and teams, as appropriate, in the skills necessary for a successful experience.
  2. Supervises individual team members and teams at all times.
  3. Knows and implements most current rules, regulations and policies. These includes, but are not limited to: specific sports rules; RI Interscholastic League Regulations; general policies of and procedures of the district including those relating to student’s academic, career, and personal social development.
  4. Works with school officials to monitor the academic performance of the student athletes and stress the importance of high academic performance as well as the important leadership role that our student athletes have in the school.
  5. Consistently functions as a role model for team members by demonstrating a respect for officials, competitors, visitors and observers while under stressful situations.
  6. Works closely with the athletic director and other coaches scheduling practices and games.
  7. Informs the athletic director of the condition of the facility, equipment and uniforms.
  8. Communicates frequently with the athletic director concerning team members, team issues and all team related activities.
  9. Notifies the Athletic Director of any actions, equipment or conditions that could possibly compromise the safety of students and adults.
  10. Delegates coaching responsibilities to assistant and volunteer coaches.
  11. All other duties as defined by the athletic director and principal.

NFHS Protecting Students From Abuse (Must be Taken Annually). NFHS RI State Component Course (New Coaches to the District Only). NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course (Must be Taken Annually). NFHS Implicit Bias Course (Must be Taken Annually). NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (Must be Taken Annually). NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (Must be Taken Annually). NFHS Title IX. NFHS Sportsmanship. And/or qualifications deemed substantially equivalent to those listed above may be accepted.
