Job Summary

Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson

Work Schedule: This is a casual/PRN position. Casual/PRN employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Work days/hours will often vary from week to week. Shifts will be nights.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing.
  • Positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers, and coworkers.
  • Greet, smile and make eye contact. Introduce self by name. Volunteer to help co-workers and other employees.
  • Address patients and others by surname. Respond quickly to patients and/or other peoples\' needs.
  • Know and demonstrate the 6-step customer complaint management process.
  • Gather and analyze patient information; collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient needs and determine testing parameters in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Complete and verify documentation. Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment for testing. Determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards.
  • Perform physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments; perform PAP mask fitting.
  • Conduct polysomnographic procedures and follow procedural protocols (MSLT, MWT, Parasomnia studies, positive Airway pressure, oxygen titration).
  • Perform data acquisition while monitoring. Document routine observations, sleep stages, clinical events, and significant events to facilitate scoring.
  • Score polysomnographic data (sleep/wake stages and clinical events) according to guidelines; generate accurate reports for physician review; participate in polysomnographic physician review.
  • Facilitate communication to pulmonologists for interpretation. Maintain supply inventory and supply orders as needed.

Education
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required
Experience
  • 3 to 6 months experience in sleep testing is preferred.
License/Certifications
  • Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered EEG Technician (R.EEGT).

  • Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) certification through BRPT required at the time of hire or within 6 months of hire if a graduate from an accredited Sleep Technologist program.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Iowa Polysomnographic Technologist (PSGT) license required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently an Iowa licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.IA) or Registered EEG Technician (R.EEGT).

  • Iowa Polysomnographic Technologist (PSGT) license required at the time of hire or within 6 months of hire if a graduate from an accredited Sleep Technologist program.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Good understanding of all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing.
  • Ability to perform Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT), and scoring polysomnograms.
