Tangent Materials is seeking a Polymer Testing Engineer to support accelerated weathering, durability, and thermal characterization of thermoplastic composites. You will design exposure programs, evaluate property retention, and develop test methods that correlate lab results with outdoor performance.

Responsibilities include rheological testing, microscopy, spectroscopy, and failure analysis, with collaboration across R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive material improvements.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in a related engineering or science field.
• Experience with weathering, durability testing, and material characterization desirable.

Responsabilidades

• Design accelerated weathering programs (xenon arc, Q-Sun, thermal cycling) for thermoplastic composites.
• Evaluate appearance and mechanical property retention after exposure (color, gloss, chalking, flexural/tensile strength).
• Plan thermal cycling, freeze–thaw, heat aging, and moisture exposure tests; assess warpage and dimensional stability.
• Conduct DSC, TGA analyses to evaluate thermal properties and stability.
• Conduct rheological testing (MFI, oscillatory) to assess processability and degradation.
• Perform microscopy (optical, SEM/EDS) to study morphology and fracture surfaces.
• Use spectroscopy to identify materials and track oxidative degradation; assess UV stabilizers/pigments.
• Correlate formulation/processing with weathering and performance; develop testing protocols.
• Apply ASTM/ISO standards; interpret applicability for thermoplastic composites.
• Lead failure analyses and root-cause investigations; communicate results to teams.
• Maintain and troubleshoot weathering chambers and instruments; manage data records.
