Job description

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) seeks a motivated college student or recent college graduate to join a passionate team for a paid internship with the Policy and Member Advocacy Department. The policy team tracks and analyzes federal legislation on gender equity in education, women’s economic security, and civil and reproductive rights.

The internship will support our work to advance federal legislation and serve as a resource to our members’ advocacy engagement. The internship runs for 12 weeks and operates in a hybrid office environment in Washington, DC.

Essential Duties

• Assist with AAUW’s Voter Education Campaign, including researching congressional races and tracking election results;
• Conduct research and draft content for fact sheets, action alerts, briefing materials, talking points, newsletter articles, and social media;
• Outreach to volunteers and partners in support of our advocacy and voter engagement work;
• Attend relevant coalition meetings, congressional hearings, and other related events;
• Other related activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Interest in women’s equity and commitment to inclusion and equity;
• Interest in public policy, advocacy, and communications;
• Strong writing, and research skills;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, take initiative and seek direction as needed;
• Strong and demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite;
• Current pursuance of an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree, or recent graduate.

Compensation and Location

• Interns are paid $19/hour. We are looking for a commitment of 20-28 hours per week.
• Interns are expected to work during our regular business hours (9am to 5pm ET). The internship operates in a hybrid office environment with two days per week in the Washington, DC, office.
• Interns will have access to a computer when working in the office and will be provided with a laptop for remote work.
