Job summary

The Indiana Builders Association, Inc. (IBA) seeks a governmental affairs intern for the 4-month, 2027 legislative session of the Indiana General Assembly. This paid internship ranges from 20 hours per week to full-time, weekdays beginning in early January 2027 and continuing through April 29, 2027.

Compensation is $15/hour and includes parking. Duties include supporting lobbyists, tracking housing-related legislation, coordinating meetings with elected officials and stakeholders, researching

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or interest in government, policy or the political process
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening) for effective internal communication with IBA staff and members as well as external communication with elected officials and staff
  • Ability to research issues from a policy and political perspective as they relate to the construction industry, and to respond to legislative and member requests in a timely and professional manner

Responsibilities

  • Support IBA’s lobbyists during the legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse (Jan.-Apr. 2027)
  • Track specific housing-related legislation
  • Coordinate meetings with elected officials and stakeholders
  • Research issues that impact members
  • Create action alerts on priority issues and prepare weekly legislative reports for members
  • Attend legislative committee meetings and provide summary of relevant action
  • Assist in Builders Day at the Statehouse on February 22, 2027
  • Other duties as directed
