Job summary

Washington State House Democratic Caucus is seeking a Caucus Policy Analyst to analyze, develop, and advise on innovative policy solutions for House Democrats. This role provides policy support for the Early Learning & Human Services and Local Government committees.

The successful candidate will engage with elected officials, staff, and stakeholders, conducting rigorous research and preparing briefs and presentations. A commitment to equity and inclusive policy is essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant policy experience; two+ years direct policy experience preferred.
  • Ten+ years direct policy experience suitable for Senior role; five years direct policy work in WA government preferred.
  • Strong political judgment, strategic thinking, and problem solving.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to distill complex policies into actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects with deadlines.
  • Commitment to racial equity, social justice, and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with elected officials and staff to develop, analyze, and interpret policy proposals.
  • Provide strategic advice to advance a Democratic legislative agenda for members and caucus.
  • Research policy issues and prepare issue briefs, summaries, and presentations.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with House Democratic Caucus members, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Work effectively with diverse personalities in team and individual settings.
  • Review and develop proposed legislation with an equity lens to mitigate harm to non-dominant communities.
