Job summary

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) seeks a Policy Analyst focused on decarceration and decriminalization to reform the criminal legal system. You will formulate research strategies, produce policy analyses, and develop evidence-based options, working with federal and state policy teams and external partners.

You will track policy proposals, support legislative advocacy, and help communicate findings to policymakers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in public policy, with knowledge in criminal legal systems.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders to execute policy research.

Responsibilities

• Formulate research strategy for democracy policy analysis at state and federal levels.
• Produce high-impact publications relating to trends in the criminal legal system.
• Collaborate with policy teams and internal stakeholders to implement work plans.
• Track and analyze policy proposals and interpret data for policymakers.
• Provide real-time responses to emerging policy questions.
• Represent SPLC in various fora and serve as spokesperson when needed.
