Job description

Description

Who We Are:

National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) is the world’s largest association of Christian communicators, representing organizations reaching millions across traditional and digital media. NRB equips and supports its members through training, resources, and advocacy to ensure the Gospel is communicated freely and effectively. As a nonpartisan, international association, NRB promotes biblical truth, media excellence, and the defense of free speech across all forms of Christian media.

Our headquarters is located in Washington, D.C. near Capitol Hill, which keeps us closely engaged with Congress, the FCC, the courts, and the Executive Branch on issues affecting Christian media. We have a secondary office in Nashville, TN.

Position Summary:

The Policy Advisor works within NRB's Office of Public Policy, reporting to the Vice President of Public Policy, to research, analyze, and communicate the legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues affecting Christian broadcasters, digital platforms, faith-based ministries, and other organizations represented within NRB's membership.

This position helps advance NRB's mission to protect and strengthen the freedoms that allow Christian communicators to faithfully proclaim the Gospel and engage the culture. Through research, strategic communications, and public policy advocacy, the Policy Advisor supports NRB's efforts before Congress, federal agencies, coalition partners, and other stakeholders to defend religious liberty, free speech, and a regulatory environment in which Christian media can flourish. This work spans a broad range of issues affecting broadcasters, digital platforms, and ministries, including First Amendment protections, broadcast and digital media policy, and other legislative and regulatory matters impacting NRB's membership.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in government, political science, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a congressional office, government relations firm, trade association or public policy organization preferred.
Requirements:
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to write credibly for multiple audiences and adapt voice accordingly.
  • Familiarity with, or strong aptitude to quickly learn, FCC processes and telecommunications/media policy.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple policy projects simultaneously while meeting competing deadlines.
  • Comfortable using modern research and productivity tools, including AI, while exercising sound editorial judgment and independently verifying facts.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential policy discussions and strategic communications.
  • Comfortable representing the department both externally (Hill, agencies, coalitions) and internally (NRB staff and leadership).
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work extended hours during convention.
  • Ability to support occasional evenings/weekends during peak seasons and major events (Convention, Capitol Hill Media Summit, etc.).
  • Mature, committed Christian faith and full alignment with NRB’s Mission, Statement of Faith, and Code of Ethics.
Responsibilities:
Policy Research & Issue Expertise
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of federal legislation, regulatory filings, and public policy developments affecting Christian broadcasters and communicators.
  • Develop working knowledge of NRB's core issue areas — First Amendment and religious liberty, AM/FM radio preservation, broadcast and digital platform access, ATSC 3.0 transition, music licensing, and FCC regulatory matters.
  • Track bills, hearings, markups, and regulatory proceedings; support strategic planning and emerging issue analysis.
Political Communications & Publications
  • Draft policy briefs, talking points, op-eds, memoranda, and backgrounders, matching voice and tone to the audience — from Hill staff and committee memos to op-eds written for a general public audience.
  • Contribute to Washington Next Week and other NRB publications when requested.
Government Relations & Advocacy
  • Prepare briefings, coordinate and help staff Hill and regulatory agency meetings.
  • Assist advocacy efforts with Congress, federal agencies (including the FCC), coalition partners, and trade associations.
Legislative Tracking & Database Management
  • Maintain legislative trackers and policy databases; monitor bill activity and cosponsorship changes.
Membership Engagement & Support
  • Develop policy resources for NRB members and respond to member policy inquiries.
Media & Public Affairs
  • Prepare Q&A and background materials for interviews; monitor media coverage of NRB's policy priorities.
Internal Representation
  • Represent the Public Policy department at internal NRB Standing Committee meetings and cross-departmental initiatives, serving as a visible point of contact for policy matters within the organization.
Events & Strategic Support
  • Support Capitol Hill meetings, policy events, and NRB conferences; provide regular updates and briefing materials to NRB leadership.
  • Travel periodically to Capitol Hill, industry conferences, and NRB events as needed.
General Responsibilities
  • To perform other duties, as assigned by the VP of Public Policy.
  • To perform all work with the highest ethical and moral standards, in compliance with all NRB internal policies and procedures.
  • To strive to maintain a servant attitude toward co-workers, accepting them as Christ accepted you.
