Job summary

Job description

Police Recruit – The City of Arvada.

Pay Range: $40.46 - $40.46 hourly.

Starting Salary after Academy: $43.54 per hour.

Position Purpose

Attends and successfully completes a Colorado P.O.S.T. law enforcement training academy, and successfully passes the Colorado P.O.S.T. certification test to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. certification.

Essential Job Functions
  • Attend and successfully complete a certified Colorado law enforcement training academy.
  • Develop knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to the training criteria.
  • Maintain physical fitness.
  • Pass P.O.S.T. certification testing for the State of Colorado.
  • Complete ride-alongs with police officers during the academy.
  • Review personnel and department rules and regulations.
  • Provide court testimony and case preparation for all cases including traffic, criminal or civil requiring the officer’s presence or the officer’s reports in municipal, state, or federal court.
  • Frequently operate a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
Other Job Functions
  • Familiarize themselves with the City of Arvada and the Arvada Police Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities learned in their certified Colorado law enforcement training academy.
  • Ability to learn basic computer programs in use at the police department.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
License & Certification
  • Ability to obtain certification in job-related functions such as: Intoxilyzer, Self-defense and arrest tactics, Emergency vehicle operations, Firearms proficiency.
  • Good health and fitness levels.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
Education

Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, BBA) required.

Other Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Successfully pass a polygraph, psychological exam, drug screen, and an extensive background check.
Physical Demands

Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.

Hazards

Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
