Job summary

Stockton Unified School District seeks a Police Officer Trainee to begin entry‑level training toward sworn service. You will work under supervision while preparing for the POST Academy and eventual Police Officer I appointment.

Responsibilities include classroom and field training, responding to calls, and performing basic investigative tasks as you learn the laws, procedures, and equipment used in school‑based law enforcement. This role is temporary while training is completed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 20 years old at time of application and 21 by appointment.
• Citizen of the United States or permanent resident who has applied for citizenship.
• Must pass a background investigation, including a psychological exam and fingerprint clearance.
• Must pass a physical examination, including a drug screen.
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Trains in a classroom and/or field setting to learn to perform the normal functions of a California peace officer and school police authority.
• Complete the POST Basic Academy training program including studying, testing, and fitness/arrest exercises.
• As a trainee with a training officer, may respond to alarms and other calls for service.
• Performs non‑complex criminal investigations and protective service duties in training.
• Attend a police academy to prepare for Officer I.
• Attend classes and labs; complete coursework and tests.
• Deliver emergency and non‑emergency messages; maintain notes and basic records.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
