Martinez Police Department is seeking candidates who are currently attending or have been accepted to the Police Academy and are interested in becoming a Police Officer. Trainees can be hired while in the academy or as officers upon graduation, at the City's discretion.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21 on or before appointment; must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have a valid California driver's license and a good driving record; pass medical, psychological and background checks.
• Vision of 20/100 or better, corrected to 20/30 in each eye; must be able to pass a polygraph.
• Desirable: learn laws and police procedures; analyze problems and act calmly in emergencies.
• Desirable: maintain positive relationships with the community and undergo physical conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned beat to prevent crime and enforce laws; respond to incidents and prepare reports.
• Make arrests, issue citations, direct traffic, and transport prisoners as needed.
• Maintain logs, participate in training conferences, and testify in court when required.
