Job summary

Arroyo Grande Police Department is seeking a police officer with prior police experience or completion of a police academy program with a P.O.S.T. certificate to deliver comprehensive law enforcement services in Arroyo Grande.

You will patrol city streets by vehicle, bike, or on foot, conduct investigations, make arrests, prepare reports, testify, and participate in field training. The department offers signing incentives and structured progression including a Field Training Officer program.

Qualifications

• Must have prior police experience or completed police academy with a P.O.S.T. certificate.
• Knowledge of municipal law enforcement procedures and report writing.
• Ability to perform patrols, investigations, and handling arrests.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the City by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to respond to calls for police service and enforce laws and traffic regulations.
• Make arrests for crimes and offenses; perform booking procedures for prisoners.
• Conduct preliminary investigations including interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects and collecting evidence.
• Investigate traffic accidents and follow up investigations as directed.
• Plan, write and execute arrest warrants and search warrants.
• Search individuals, vehicles, structures, and areas for evidence and contraband.
• Conduct searches for missing persons and provide emergency first aid as needed.
• Prepare clear reports using the department's records management system and testify in court when required.
