Job summary

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is seeking qualified applicants for recruitment in the Public Safety department. The Civil Service classification is Competitive and the union is the Fraternal Order of Police, Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1.

The department offers comprehensive benefits and a clear path from Training Academy to the first-year police officer salary. Salary during the Training Academy is $22.95 per hour; in the first year as a Police Officer, $33.15 per hour. Applicants must be U.S.

Qualifications

• Applicants must submit a complete application, including education, work experience, a resume (if applicable), and completed supplemental questions.
• At least 20 years of age at the time of filing the application.
• A United States citizen.
• Applicants must be or become residents of an area within a 25-mile air radius of the downtown City–County Building prior to employment and remain a resident within the 25-mile air radius throughout employment.
• A current, valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License (Class C – regular) or a current, valid driver's license from another state or the U.S. Armed Forces. PA driver's license must be obtained prior to appointment and maintained throughout employment.
• Preference points documentation, if applicable, must be submitted no later than your Written Examination date.
