Applicants must meet Iowa law enforcement standards, be at least 21, and reside within sixty minutes of the Public Safety Building. Comprehensive testing includes POST, agility, background and interviews.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; must meet Iowa Law Enforcement Academy requirements.
• Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with no felony convictions; minor offenses judged case-by-case.
• Vision: uncorrected 20/100, corrected to 20/20; color vision normal.
• Normal hearing in each ear; clear English reading/writing abilities.
• Good moral character; no drug or alcohol addictions; no recent illicit use.
• Must be willing to use force when necessary in duty.
• Capable of outdoor work in varied weather; lift/push 50+ lbs.
• Hold a valid Iowa driver’s license; reside within 60 minutes of the Public Safety Building
• Successfully complete testing (POST, agility) and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform general law enforcement and crime prevention duties.
• Enforce laws and engage in community policing; respond to calls for service.
• Begin with supervised work and progress to full duties with experience.
• Complete required testing, interviews, and background investigations.
• Other duties as assigned by the department.
