Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Patrols an assigned Community area in a radio-equipped vehicle, enforcing laws and ordinances.
  • Responds to incidents, securing scenes and initiating preliminary investigations.
  • Arrests, questions, and transports suspects to jail facilities.
  • Processes arrested persons in accordance with legal and departmental procedures.
  • Prepares incident reports to support prosecutable cases.
  • Secures and investigates crime scenes, preserving evidence and property.
  • Gathers information through interviews with victims, suspects, and witnesses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of law enforcement work associated with patrol, traffic enforcement, and investigations.Must possess Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST) certification as a Peace Officer with no lapse of certified status and be in good standing with current or previous employer; OR be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. Must be 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and meet or exceed the physical standards established by the Arizona POST. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must be able to successfully complete an extensive background check, including a polygraph test, psychological evaluation and medical exam.

  • Patrols an assigned area of the Community in a radio-equipped vehicle checking businesses/residences, discovering/preventing criminal activities, and enforcing State/Community laws/ordinances.
  • Responds to calls involving automobile accidents, assaults, domestic disturbances, and other criminal activities/civil complaints to secure the scene, conduct preliminary investigations, and establish law and order.
  • Arrests, questions, and transports suspects and/or persons with outstanding arrest warrants to jail facilities.
  • Ensures that arrested persons are processed (booked) into jail in accordance with State and Federal guidelines and Police Department and jail procedures.
  • Prepares incident reports regarding all activities to facilitate preparation of prosecutable cases.
  • Secures/investigates crime scenes to ensure that the collection, preservation, and handling of physical evidence and property meets established professional and legal standards.
  • Gathers and records/preserves information and evidence. Interviews/interrogates victims, suspects, and witnesses to obtain and verify information pertinent to the investigation and resolution of a variety of criminal/potentially criminal incidents.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of Ak-Chin Indian Community laws/ordinances to be enforced.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and County statutes, codes, and ordinances to be enforced.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices, including investigation, identification, patrol, traffic control, community/public relations, records management, report preparation, and custody of persons and property.
  • Knowledge of the equipment used in law enforcement, including weaponry, communications, and automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge of the location of streets and addresses in Ak-Chin and the surrounding area.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other law enforcement agency and regulatory agency/organization staff, Community officials, criminal justice staff, and the public.
  • Skill in understanding and interpreting complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
  • Skill in preparing reports documenting the facts and actions regarding criminal/civil incidents.
  • Skill in using a variety of specialized law enforcement equipment.
  • Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
  • Skill in communicating using a standard two-way radio.
  • Skill in conducting investigations of criminal activities.
