City of Brea is seeking a Police Officer to perform law enforcement, traffic control, and investigative duties while supporting special crime prevention programs.
The role requires CA POST certification, a high school diploma, and a valid CA driver’s license; the department emphasizes community relations and safety. Base pay ranges with additional compensation for credentials and assignments.
Base Salary: $99,501.57 - $127,386.48 not including eligible additional compensation with bilingual pay, special assignment pay, and up to twelve-point five (12.5)% for POST certificate.
To perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs; to perform a variety of technical law enforcement tasks.
General supervision is provided by a Police Sergeant.
Technical or functional supervision may be provided by other police personnel.
Assignments may require direct or indirect supervision of sworn and non-sworn personnel.
In addition to the minimum qualifications,
Government Code 1029 for additional disqualifiers from holding office as a peace officer.
Shall consist of three phases:
Phase One - Application Review: The first phase of the selection process shall be a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate’s application. Those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of education and experience, as submitted, may be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process. No weight shall be assigned to this phase of the selection process. Applicants must attach a copy of a valid California Basic P.O.S.T certificate.
Phase Two - Oral Appraisal Interview: Candidates who receive a minimum score of 70% on this phase shall move to the next phase of the selection process.
Phase Three - Physical Agility Exam: Candidates who receive a passing score on this phase shall have their name placed on the Eligibility List for Police Officer Lateral. Eligibility Lists are generally valid for one year. Once the list is established, the Police Department may conduct follow-up assessments.
Prospective candidates must successfully complete a thorough background review. Upon a conditional offer of employment, prospective candidates must successfully complete a psychological and medical examination and provide proof of legal work status. All new employees will be fingerprinted as a part of the employment process and a criminal history check will be conducted with the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, in the event of a disaster, City employees are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.
