Job summary

Angelo State University is seeking a Police Officer II to patrol campus areas, enforce university policies, and protect life and property on campus in San Angelo, Texas. You will respond to calls, investigate incidents, issue citations, and provide safety services during assigned shifts.

The role requires a Basic Texas Peace Officer License (TCOLE) plus one year of experience; candidates must pass a physical fitness evaluation and a background check.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of law enforcement and public safety.
• Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures utilized in campus law enforcement and security.
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of firearms; knowledge of campus buildings and facilities and their uses.

Responsibilities

• Patrols campus areas on foot or in patrol vehicle to control traffic, prevent crime or disturbances, and enforce applicable rules and laws.
• Responds to a variety of calls for police services. Investigates accidents, incidents, crimes, and prepares investigative offense reports.
• Assists in maintaining a safe campus by responding to fire and burglar alarms; medical emergencies and ensuring the physical security of campus buildings.
• Issues citations for traffic and parking violations on campus and adjacent city streets.
• Provides security and crowd control services at University-sponsored events and functions, as assigned; transports money to and from various campus locations as requested.
• Arranges for abandoned or impounded vehicles to be towed away.
• Provides customer service to students, faculty, staff and university visitors by providing directions and other assistance as needed.
• Escorts injured persons to medical facilities, as deemed appropriate.
• Documents and reports any threats to public safety.
• Testifies in court or at hearings on accident, theft, burglary, and other cases; serves subpoenas.

Available for recall as needed for campus emergencies.

Under general supervision, performs law enforcement and public safety duties to protect life and property on campus. Enforces university policies and regulations, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws, while providing services that support a safe and secure environment for the Angelo State University community.

• Skilled in self-defense tactics. The University Police Department will furnish approved duty weapon. Candidate is required to pass a physical performance evaluation ( WORKSTEPS ) performed by the West Texas Rehab Center.
• Ability to successfully pass an entry level written and grammar evaluation.

• Ability to complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Successfully graduated high school or possess equivalent GED .
• Possess a Basic Texas Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement ( TCOLE ) plus one year experience in law enforcement or related field.
