Description:

Working under the direction of the Police Chief, police candidates will participate in law enforcement and community policing efforts of the Logan City Police Department.

The Logan City Police Department is a progressive police department, actively using and participating in the community policing philosophy.

In a department the size of Logan, there are numerous opportunities for an officer to gain experience and knowledge.

The Police Department manages a full-service administrative, patrol and investigation division that offers all types of specialized investigative technology and practices.

The Logan City Police Department is the managing agency for the Cache/Rich Drug Task Force.

The Logan Police Department has an active approach to law enforcement with a mountain bike unit, a traffic unit with motorcycle assignments, SWAT team, K-9 officers, drug recognition experts, accident re-constructionist, and several other specialties.

The Department currently has a car-per man program. Uniforms, sidearm, ammunition, leather, and protective vests are all provided by the department.

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to certified and current academy enrolled candidates over those that would need to be sponsored through the POST certification process. (Points for education and experience not given unless already graduated). Must be able to pass the POST minimum physical fitness requirements and POST background.

  • Must be 21 years of age the day of the examination.
  • Must be a high school graduate or have GED equivalency.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felony, or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or be eligible to work within the United States.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and reference check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening once a job offer has been extended.
EXPERIENCED/LATERALCANDIDATES ELIGIBLE FOR POLICE OFFICER II/POLICE OFFICER III POSITION:
POLICE OFFICER II QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a minimum of three (3) years experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer.

POLICE OFFICER III QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a minimum of six (6) years experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer.

EXAMINATION:

The examination will consist of a physical agility evaluation and written assessment. Points will be assessed for education and experience. The physical agility will be pass/fail. All candidates must pass the physical portion to proceed with the written assessment.

EXAM DATE: Saturday, October 24, 2026
LOCATION: BTECH Bridgerland Technical College - West Campus: 1410 North 1000 West, Logan, Utah 84321
REGISTRATION: 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m

All candidates will be required to show picture ID and sign an attendance roster and accident waiver. Candidates should come prepared to participate in the physical portion of the examination first; clothing should be comfortable, etc.

Police Officer I Starting Salary: $32.67 Hourly

Police Officer (Part-time) Starting Salary: $24.00 Hourly

Police Officer II & III Salary Range: Lateral transfer wages can be discussed

$1,000.00 sign-on bonus for those hired who successfully complete department field training. Not available if department sponsored to Police Academy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of City of Logan ordinances.

Knowledge of State, Federal, and County statutes, codes, and ordinances.

Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices, including investigations, identification, patrol, traffic control, records management, report preparation, and custody of persons and property.

Knowledge of the equipment used in law enforcement, including weaponry, communications, Computers, and automotive equipment.

Knowledge of the location of streets and addresses in the City of Logan.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other law enforcement agency and regulatory agency/organizations staff, city officials, criminal justice system staff, and the public.

Skill in understanding and interpreting complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.

Skill in preparing reports, documenting facts, and taking actions regarding criminal/civil incidents.

Skill in communicating using a standard two-way radio and Mobile Data Computer and programs.

Skill in conducting investigations of criminal activities.
