The Richland Police Department is currently seeking Exceptional Entry Level Police Officer applicants. If you are a sworn police officer who works full-time for another agency, or have completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) or an equivalent out of state academy approved by CJTC, but have worked there less than 24 months, you may be considered as an Exceptional Entry Level Police Officer candidate. Exceptional Entry Police Officers start at Step A: $46.53 (Hourly) Position Salary Range: $46.53 - $52.77 (Hourly).
Under the direction of a Police Sergeant or designee, the officer performs police protection and other services to safeguard the lives, property and constitutional rights of the citizens of Richland; responds to crime and accident scenes, emergency situations and other requests for assistance; detects, apprehends and arrests criminals; enforces the laws and ordinances of the City and performs a variety of specialized duties as assigned. The assignment may include 12-hour shifts, callbacks, standby, and overtime as required. Incumbents are allocated to one or more specialized full-time assignments on a rotational basis (DOQ). Each optional assignment within this classification is compensated in accordance with collective bargaining agreements recognizing difficulty and responsibility of each assignment.

The position involves working outdoors year-round on Richland City streets, subject to extreme weather conditions. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate, depending on location. The officer may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, verbal abuse and violence. The job requires interaction with upset staff and/or the public, interpreting and enforcing departmental policies, procedures, and state laws.
Physical demands include operating a motorized vehicle, standard equipment, sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 100 lbs on occasion, climbing fences, fighting and shooting in stressful situations, restraining and controlling persons, handling firearms, and repeated use of a computer keyboard and mouse.
Corrected vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth) is required, along with hearing and speaking abilities.
Final selection will be based on overall qualifications and an interview process. Selected candidates will be required to complete and pass a comprehensive integrity interview, background/reference check (includes site visit), polygraph, fingerprinting, pre-employment physical, and psychological exam.
*Rates subject to change based upon collective bargaining agreement (CBA). For 2022-2025 Police Guild CBA, rates are as follows: 1st- 9 years: 12 10th - 15 years: 14 16th - 20 years: 16 Over 20 years: 18.
