Job summary

The City of La Habra is seeking Academy trained individuals, or those currently attending the academy, who are testing to become sworn Police Officers. The role emphasizes partnerships with the community, proactive crime prevention, and effective policing.

Selected candidates will perform patrols, investigations, traffic enforcement, and participate in crime prevention programs. Educational requirements include a CA POST Academy completion or active enrollment, with 21 years of age and U.S.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and POST Academy within 24 months or current enrollment in a CA POST-certified academy.
• No sworn law enforcement experience required; relevant related work can help.
• 21 years of age at time of appointment and U.S. citizenship or pending citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas in a patrol car to preserve law and order and enforce traffic laws.
• Investigate crimes against persons and property; interview victims and witnesses; collect evidence.
• Respond to calls and complaints; write reports and maintain accurate records.
• Assist in supervision of other officers and maintain knowledge of laws and department procedures.
• Participate in community policing, crime prevention, and special enforcement programs.
