Job summary

Middle Tennessee State University is seeking a Police Officer 2 in the University Police department. The role patrols the campus, enforces laws, testifies in court, and maintains records.

The position requires a High School diploma or HSE, plus a minimum of one year of certified law enforcement experience and Tennessee POST certification. US citizenship and a valid driver's license are required, with background and medical/psychological exams.

Job Summary/Basic Function

Serve as a Police Officer qualified to carry firearms; patrol the campus community, testify in court proceedings, maintain accurate records; operate and maintain law enforcement equipment; enforce university, state and local laws; investigate suspected criminal incidents and respond to emergency situations. Ascertain facts through personal contact / observation as well as analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine a proper course of action. Successfully complete all ongoing and annual requirements to maintain P.O.S.T. Peace Officer certification in the State of Tennessee. Adequately perform daily assignments and duties as indicated by reviews / performance evaluation of the assigned Patrol Sergeant.

Required Education

High School diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) required.

Required Related Experience

Possess a minimum of one year of certified law enforcement experience (must be in good standing with previous law enforcement employer(s). US citizen, Honorable discharge if military experience; must pass a psychological and physical examination administered by a licensed physician at the department’s expense.

Required within the first six (6) months of employment:

• Completion of the 3-week transition training for POST certification (if required).
• Completion of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification.
• Completion of the MTSU Field Training Program.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Applicant must possess Tennessee POST Peace Officer Certification, be 20 years of age by the date of hire and have a valid Driver License

Desirable Related Experience

Bachelors degree preferred.
