• Successful completion of a State certified Peace Officer basic training program, or able to transfer an out of state certification.
• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s license, and maintain the license per university policy.
• Must be a United States citizen.
• Background must be free of felony convictions.
• Successful completion of all phases of the Selection Process, including physical and psychological examinations.

Job Summary/Basic Function

JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, performs general patrol and operationalduties ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal and StateLaws and University Policies; answers calls when a crime issuspected or an emergency exists; takes such actions as arenecessary to prevent crime, to maintain safety, to assist thecampus community in a wide range of emergency and non-emergencysituations. The Central State University Police Departmentsubscribes to the Community-Oriented Policing philosophy and,therefore, the primary emphasis of the position involves communityservice. Officers are required to take a problem-solving approachto the situations they encounter on a day-to-day basis and tointeract with the campus community on a regular basis to addressrelevant concerns facing the campus community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Patrols campus buildings and property to maintain security andsafety. Checks, locks and unlocks doors as necessary. Reportsunsafe campus conditions.
2. Directs and regulates traffic.
3. Looks for and investigates conditions or situations which mayindicate a crime is about to be, or has been, committed.
4. Conducts investigations of crimes, preserves crime scenes,gathers and preserves evidence.
5. Maintains records and prepares reports of incidents andactivities. Takes statements from witnesses and suspects.
6. Investigates accidents, determining conditions, causes and otherpertinent facts regarding accidents.
7. Issues citations for violations of traffic laws.
8. Uses discretion to collaborate with Student Conduct authoritiesto provide disciplinary interventions for minor studentinfractions.
9. Makes arrests, sometimes requiring the use of physicaleffort.
10. Secures warrants. Testifies in court.
11. Transports prisoners.
12. Assists injured persons, providing appropriate notificationswhen necessary.
13. Answers inquiries; assists stranded motorists.
14. Ability to acquire and maintain certification (pursuant tostate standards) for the operation of on-duty and off-dutyfirearms.

Minimum Qualifications
