Job summary

The Village of Northbrook is seeking Police Officers to protect and serve the community through proactive patrols, rapid response to incidents, and thorough investigations. You will engage with residents, businesses, and visitors to deter crime and promote safety while upholding high professional standards.

Applicants should anticipate ongoing training, collaboration with multi‑level agencies, and participation in routine duties.

Responsibilities

• Patrol neighborhoods and business districts to deter crime, respond to concerns, and help ensure the safety of people and property.
• Respond to calls for service, including emergencies, alarms, traffic incidents, motorist assists, and requests for police or fire department assistance.
• Enforce traffic and parking laws, investigate traffic crashes, direct traffic when needed, and promote safe travel throughout the Village.
• Conduct criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects; gathering evidence; documenting incidents; and preparing detailed reports.
• Make arrests when appropriate, execute warrants, secure crime scenes, and safely resolve incidents while following department policies and applicable laws.
• Search buildings, residences, and surrounding areas for suspects, preserve evidence, and provide backup to fellow officers during high-risk situations.
• Testify in court regarding investigations, arrests, citations, and other enforcement actions.
• Collect, preserve, photograph, and document evidence from crime scenes and traffic crashes to support successful investigations and prosecutions.
• Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions on public property that may affect the health or safety of the community.
• Educate residents on crime prevention, personal safety, and available community resources while serving as a trusted public safety partner.
• Provide emergency medical assistance and first aid until relieved by Fire Department or EMS personnel.
• Work collaboratively with other local, state, and federal law enforcement and government agencies.
• Maintain department vehicles and equipment by reporting maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Serve subpoenas, warrants, and other legal documents as required.
• Follow all department policies, procedures, and safety standards while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and accountability.
• Participate in daily briefings, training, and other meetings to stay informed, prepared, and ready to serve.
