Job summary

The United States Capitol Police is actively hiring for police officer vacancies in Washington, D.C. The department protects the Congress, the public, and the Capitol with more than 2,000 officers, emphasizing a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Starting salary is $86,530 per year, plus a $10,000 retention bonus for lateral hires and an $80,000 student loan repayment program. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and long-term care insurance, and a robust savings plan, among other perks.

Qualifications

• Must be a United States citizen.
• Must be between 21-39 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license.
• Must show evidence of responsible driving in the past year.
• Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must successfully complete a full field background investigation.
• Travel for hiring assessments and training is at applicant's expense.
• Psychological, medical assessment, polygraph, fitness, criminal, credit, and tax check required.
• Must successfully complete all required training.

Responsibilities

• Provide armed security and protection for Members of Congress.
• Serve in the Containment and Emergency Response Team (CERT/SWAT) and other specialty units as assigned.
• Collaborate with K-9 Unit and Bicycle Response Team.
• Assist in Criminal Investigations and intelligence coordination.
• Support threat assessment and operations center activities.
