Job description

Salary: $71,676.80 – $91,499.20 Annually

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant or Police Captain when under special assignments, is expected to patrol the City in the prevention of crime and the preservation of law and order, to respond to public assistance requests as necessary to protect life and property, and to perform related work as required. Responsibilities may, in certain assignments, extend to being an “officer in charge” or working as a Detective, a Community Relations Officer, a D.A.R.E. Officer. Performs other work as requested.

Essential Functions:
  • Enforces traffic and criminal laws of the City, State and Federal governments; operates motorized equipment on an assigned shift to observe for violation of laws, suspicious cars and persons and disturbances of law and order; responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints; gives directions and information; serves warrants and makes arrests; testifies in court; directs traffic; checks business establishments for unlock doors and windows; reports unsafe conditions existing in streets or other public facilities; patrols liquor license premises and other establishments; ensures the proper treatment of people with special disabilities; collects and preserves evidences; interrogates witnesses and suspects; prepares log of activities and crime and incident reports; investigates complaints; reports abandoned or damaged vehicles; serves subpoenas; provides escort or guard services for parades, funerals or public meetings; participates in training conferences and programs and practices the use of firearms, observes and reports conditions conducive to crime.
  • Investigates criminal cases as assigned; detects and arrests criminals; prepares and presents criminal cases for court.
  • Plans, organizes schedules and presents various education programs within the Fairborn school system. This officer serves as a police liaison with the various community youth and parent committees and organizations associated with the Fairborn Schools. Counsels students and enforces the laws and code of conduct as it pertains to the school district.
  • Performs duties similar to School Resource Officer with an emphasis on the D.A.R.E. program during the school year; conducts drug awareness programs for parents and students
Requirements:
  • High School diploma, GED, or an equivalent certificate of competency.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License,
  • Have no felony convictions,
  • Be 21 years of age at the time of appointment and possess State of Ohio Certification as a Police Officer.
  • Per O.R.C. Section 124.41 – Except as otherwise provided in this section, no person is eligible to receive an original appointment when the person is thirty-five years of age or older, and no person can be declared disqualified as over age prior to that time.
