General Purpose
Under general supervision, provides responsive and courteous police services in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, generally consisting of routine patrol, interventions, assistance, investigations and traffic regulation duties.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Preserves the peace of the community through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, documentation, and arrest; utilizes all lawful means to improve the quality of life by reducing the fear and incidence of crime, recognizing and resolving problems, and meeting the public safety needs of the citizens of Corinth.
- Patrols the city to respond to citizens’ requests for assistance, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators, and assure public safety.
- Patrols and provides security for assigned areas, looking for unusual or suspicious activities or persons; responds to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service; interrogates and communicates with victims, witnesses and suspects in cases; provides scene security and protection for fire and medical personnel.
- Enforces local, state and federal laws, and enforces compliance with local regulations and ordinances, according to department policies, procedures and regulations.
- Investigates crimes and accidents; secures and processes crime and accident scenes, and identifies and collects evidence within scope of authority.
- Arrests law violators; transports and processes suspects, victims and prisoners.
- Completes detailed reports and required paperwork.
- Maintains vehicle and equipment according to department standards.
- Represents the city police at court hearings; prepares reports and testifies in court cases.
- Assists and coordinates with other emergency services personnel, outside organizations and businesses, and federal, state and local law‑enforcement organizations.
- Provides education and information programs for community and school awareness projects; teaches and counsels residents on law‑enforcement activities and referral resources.
- Performs specialized functions in areas of expertise, including training, K‑9, SWAT, event security, computer systems, and other special enforcement and investigative teams.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the department by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cooperates with co‑workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
- Maintains regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the city.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for the position.
- Age: 21 years of age at the time of the written exam.
- Citizenship: United States citizen.
- Education: High school diploma or General Equivalency diploma (GED).
- Certification: Currently certified from TCOLE; or a current peace officer in another state with the ability to successfully challenge and pass the TCOLE exam.
- Driver's License: Valid driver license prior to employment; must obtain Texas Class C driver license within 30 days of hire per state law.
- Mental Condition: Must pass an oral interview, polygraph and psychological examination.
- Physical Condition: Must pass a physical (medical) examination and drug screen.
- Vision: Must possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected (or use of appropriate contact lenses or eyeglasses on duty).
- Hearing: Must pass a hearing test.
- Criminal Record: No convictions for a criminal offense above Class C misdemeanor.

- Geography, roads, and landmarks of the city and surrounding areas.
- Police Department General Orders, policies and procedures.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to inclement weather; required to physically restrain persons; subject to extended periods of intense concentration in review of crime scenes, special investigations and law‑enforcement report preparation. Must be able to work in uniform during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
- Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- Citizen of the United States.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Have been honorably discharged from any military service or be able to provide proof of acceptable military re‑enlistment eligibility if prior service is uncharacterized.
- Possess a valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license.
Disqualifying Conditions
- Conviction of an offense of family violence.
- On court‑ordered community supervision or probation for any offense the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or above within the past 10 years.
- Conviction of an offense the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or above within the past 10 years.
- Any criminal charges pending or present indictment for any criminal offense.
- License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement suspended or revoked.
- Any felony or crime involving moral turpitude.
- Current DWI/DUI conviction within the past 10 years.
- Failure to demonstrate the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Inability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Inability to obtain a valid Texas driver license.
