Job summary

George Mason University is seeking a Police Corporal to enforce laws, supervise officers, and deliver high-level public safety for the Fairfax campus. This is a full-time, on-site role within the Executive Administration department, with a 1.0 FTE schedule and 40 hours per week.

The Corporal will lead patrols, perform investigations, provide community outreach, and coordinate training while maintaining vehicle operation policies and complying with GMU safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Officer certification.
• Active General Instructor and/or Field Training Officer certification required; certifications must include one of listed disciplines.
• Experience as a certified law enforcement officer with skill in police equipment relevant to the position.
• Ability to pass rigid background check and fitness/psychological examinations.
• Must possess and maintain an active, valid motor vehicle operator's license; MVR review may be required.

Responsibilities

• Enforces laws and investigates crimes and traffic crashes; issues summonses and warnings as appropriate.
• Provides public services and assistance to the community with courteous, unbiased service.
• Conducts patrols and provides crime prevention services to the university community.
• Provides support to victims, witnesses, and persons in need of services; maintains confidentiality.
• Leads and directs staff, exercising supervisory responsibility in the absence of the Sergeant; coordinates training and rollout of duties.
