Job summary

The City of Seattle seeks an experienced law enforcement executive to lead the Seattle Police Department (SPD) as Chief, reporting to the mayor. The Chief is responsible for budget, staffing, policy direction, and delivery of police services through the department's command structure.

Successful candidates will demonstrate executive experience in policing, community engagement, and governance, with accountability to the public and trust-building across Seattle neighborhoods.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of SPD goals in alignment with the mayor’s public safety vision.
• Oversee budget and staffing strategy for the Seattle Police Department.
• Provide expert counsel on policing issues and build relations with the mayor, city council, and community partners.
• Ensure organizational alignment in vision, values, and operations through the chain of command.
• Manage personnel actions, including hiring, grievances, and performance management in a union environment.
