Job summary

The ideal candidate will have extensive police administration experience, FBI National Academy credentials preferred, and a track record of strategic leadership in law enforcement. This is a full-time, on-site executive position in Kirkwood.

Qualifications

• Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates Department programs and operations.
• Develops, justifies, administers, and monitors a budget exceeding $10 million.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies and municipalities.
• Ensures high standards of professional competence and performance among Department employees.
• Consults with the CAO on the development and implementation of City ordinances, law enforcement policies, and programs.
• Develops, approves, and implements Department policies and procedures.
• Represents the Department at public meetings and communicates its programs, policies, and procedures.
• Oversees employee recruitment and selection and approves major personnel actions, including appointments, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
• Approves equipment specifications and recommends purchases to the City Council.
• Serves as the agency head for the Department's ongoing CALEA accreditation program.
