Job summary

The Meskwaki Nation Police Department seeks a Chief of Police to lead the MNPD, overseeing operations, administration, training and discipline, and to ensure public safety and enforcement of laws within the Meskwaki community. The role directs all MNPD activities, develops policies, plans budgets, supervises staff, and reports to the Tribal Council.

A bachelor’s in criminal justice with 5 years LE, including admin experience, and certification or reciprocity is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college or university; five years of law enforcement experience, with three in admin/management.
• Must hold Iowa LEO Academy or BIA certification or reciprocity within one year.
• Knowledge of police administration, Tribal sovereignty, and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide law enforcement services to the Meskwaki community and public in a tactical, ethical manner.
• Assume full command of the MNPD and plan, direct, and supervise all MNPD activities.
• Develop, implement and ensure compliance with MNPD policies, rules, and budgets.
• Present monthly reports to the Tribal Council on performance, staff development, and customer satisfaction.
