Job Description

Qualified applicants will be invited individually to attend a Physical Agility Test if needed. Passing candidates may be invited to an interview. Additional details to be provided at the closing of recruitment.

This position requires current enrollment or attendance in a P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer Training Academy. Applicants must either be currently enrolled in the academy or have graduated from it. To establish qualifications, applicants should complete the online application and attach a copy of their P.O.S.T. certification if applicable.

Applicants may be required to attend a Physical Agility Test (PAT) depending on current status. Dates for PAT will be notified at the closing of recruitment.

Applicants must pass an extensive Police Background Investigation and Administrative Review.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under direct supervision and tutorage of a tactical officer, develops an awareness of the functions, activities, and responsibilities of a Police Officer.

Class Characteristics: This position requires current enrollment or attendance in a P.O.S.T. certified Police Training Academy or must have previously graduated from a P.O.S.T. certified Police Training Academy and possess a valid P.O.S.T. Police Training Academy Certificate. The P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer Training Academy is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the criminal justice system and specialized training in various laws, Police practices and procedures, law enforcement techniques, First Aid, physical conditioning, and participation in departmental training/orientation programs. Upon successful completion of a Police Officer training class, Police Academy Trainees will be appointed to and sworn in as a probationary entry level Police Officer with full Police authority.
