Job summary

AdventHealth in Calhoun, GA is seeking a Laboratory professional to manage POCT program workflows and education. You will document statistics, support clinicians, and participate in performance improvement to enhance patient care.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in medical laboratory science or equivalent, ABHES/CAAHEP training, and 2+ years of technical experience including 1 year in POCT. Expect a full-time day shift with regulatory compliance responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology with approved training or equivalency.
  • Laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP, or equivalent documented training.
  • MLS (ASCP) or MLS (AMT) certification or equivalent within scope.
  • 2+ years of technical experience including at least 1 year in POCT environment.

Responsibilities

  • Document and submit required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics and reports.
  • Provide ongoing education and support to POCT clinicians as coach and mentor.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance patient care.
  • Maintain accreditation and inspection readiness with proper documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage inventory control and supply stocking to ensure availability of materials.
  • Provide orientation and training to new employees and students.
  • Follow safety policies including PPE use and chemical handling.
  • Develop and implement POCT program policies and procedures for regulatory compliance.
  • Train and assess testing personnel to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Evaluate and select new POCT instruments and procedures to enhance testing capabilities.
  • Monitor and maintain POCT equipment, including validation and troubleshooting.
  • Collect and analyze data to improve quality and efficiency of POCT program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:
  • Documents and submits required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics and reports.
  • Provides ongoing education and support to POCT clinicians, acting as a teacher, coach, and mentor.
  • Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities to enhance patient care.
  • Maintains accreditation and inspection readiness through proper documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Manages inventory control and supply stocking to ensure availability of necessary materials.
  • Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students.
  • Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the POCT program to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Trains and assesses the competency of testing personnel to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Evaluates and selects new POCT instruments and procedures to enhance testing capabilities.
  • Monitors and maintains POCT equipment, including validation, correlation, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve the quality and efficiency of the POCT program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays if the need arises; on-call hours may also be required. [Required]
  • Knowledge of POC and laboratory rules and regulations [Required]
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-lab departments. [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and have good comprehension of conversational English. [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]
Education:

Bachelor's.[Required] Field of Study: in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR Successful completion of at least a 50-week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.

Required Work Experience:

2+ of technical experience including a minimum of one year in a POCT environment [Preferred]

Pay Range:
