Responsibilities

• Prescriptive Authority: Prescribes, adjusts, and manages psychotropic medications in accordance with state laws and practice guidelines.
• Psychotherapy & Counseling: Provides individual, group, or family psychotherapy, such as CBT and supportive counseling.
• Patient & Family Education: Educates patients and their families on mental health diagnoses, coping skills, medication side effects, and self-care.
• Care Coordination: Collaborates with physicians, social workers, and other health care professionals to integrate physical and mental health services.
• Documentation: Maintains accurate, confidential electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with regulatory and clinical standards.

They work independently or in multidisciplinary care teams within outpatient clinics, hospitals, and community health centers to promote wellness and stabilize chronic or acute mental illnesses.
