Job summary

Easter n Communications, Ltd. in Hazlet, NJ, seeks a Vehicle Installation Technician to outfit law enforcement, fire, and utility vehicles with specialized systems and components.

You will install, configure, and maintain sirens, comms systems, routers, antennas, and related equipment, following manuals and safety standards, while coordinating with the Installation Supervisor and documenting configurations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in automotive tech/electronics advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Experience in automotive upfitting, electronics installation, or related technical roles.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools used in automotive/electronic work.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement equipment (emergency lighting, comms, computer setups).
  • Detail-oriented with meticulous work ethic.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Clear communication with team, supervisors, and client personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure a variety of equipment in police, fire, or utility vehicles (sirens, comms, routers, antennas, CCTV, computers).
  • Collaborate with Installation Supervisor to plan installations per vehicle specs and department needs.
  • Follow manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure proper integration and safety compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment functionality; perform repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Conduct quality control checks on installations and alignments to meet safety standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of installed equipment, wiring diagrams, and configurations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes affecting vehicle upfitting.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and law enforcement personnel to capture requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and stay updated.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Vehicle Installation Technician to join our team and play a crucial role in preparing law enforcement, fire, and/or utility vehicles for duty. As a Vehicle Installation Technician, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining a wide range of specialized equipment and systems in vehicles, ensuring they meet operational requirements and safety standards. Your expertise will contribute directly to the functionality, efficiency, and safety of vehicles used to serve and protect our communities.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
  • Install and configure a variety of specialized police, fire, or utility equipment, including but not limited to sirens, communication systems, cellular routers, roof mounted antennas, video surveillance, computers, and other law enforcement-specific components.
  • Collaborate with the Installation Supervisor to plan and prioritize the installation of equipment based on vehicle specifications and department requirements.
  • Follow technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate installation and integration of equipment while adhering to manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to equipment functionality, wiring, and connections; conduct necessary repairs or replacements to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform quality control checks to verify the correct installation, alignment, and functionality of all equipment, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all installed equipment, wiring diagrams, and configurations for future reference and potential maintenance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to police vehicle equipment and upfitting techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and law enforcement personnel to understand specific equipment requirements and provide technical support.
  • Participate in regular training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and stay updated on evolving equipment and technology.
Basic Role Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in automotive technology, electronics, or related fields are a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in automotive upfitting, electronics installation, or related technical roles.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools commonly employed in automotive and electronic work.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement equipment such as emergency lighting, communication systems, and computer setups is highly advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work meticulously and accurately, ensuring high-quality installations.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose and address equipment malfunctions and technical challenges.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to efficiently prioritize tasks and meet installation deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, law enforcement personnel, and supervisors.
