Job summary

Penske Media Corporation (PMC) is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join the Controllership team in West Los Angeles. The role reports to the Publication Controller and supports the Finance and Accounting teams for PMC’s publication brands, including month-end close, reconciliations, and ad hoc analyses.

On-site four days per week with one remote day, this position emphasizes collaboration across brands and strong process improvements.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years relevant accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adhere and meet internal and external deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations across financial statement areas.
• Analyze monthly P&L variances and provide reporting to management.
• Prepare audit documentation and key footnote disclosures.
• Assist in administering financial close software tools (NetSuite, Coupa, Blackline).
• Contribute to ad hoc projects, focusing on close optimization with AI tools.

Job description

Penske Media Corporation (PMC), the parent company of Rolling Stone, Variety, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, SXSW, The Golden Globes, and many more, is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join our Controllership team in West Los Angeles.

This role will report to the Publication Controller and is to support the Finance and Accounting team for maintaining the books and records of PMC’s publication brands. The ideal candidate must possess a goal-oriented approach and a dynamic personality as this position interacts with business teams across the organization. This role will also assist with account reconciliations, variance reporting, and other ad hoc requests as provided by management.

Typical Tasks May Include (but Are Not Limited To)

• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations across several financial statement areas including the recognition of revenue, expenses, and intercompany allocations
• Analyze monthly P&L variances and provide meaningful reporting to management on an ongoing basis
• Prepare audit documentation and key footnote disclosures as requested
• Assist in the administration of financial close software tools, including NetSuite, Coupa, and Blackline
• Contribute to various ad hoc projects, with a focus on close optimization utilizing generative AI tools.
• Proactively identify and implement process improvements
• Establish and document policies, procedures and best practices across the department.
• Perform special projects and any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned

Required Qualifications

• At least 4-5 years relevant accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to adhere and meet internal and external deadlines

Preferred Experience

• Working towards CPA and/or Public Accounting experience
• Media or Publication industry experience
• Previous experience with NetSuite, Coupa, and Blackline

As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite four days per week and remotely one day per week. This position is based in West Los Angeles.

A good faith estimate of the salary range is $80,000 - $90,000 upon hire. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role.
