Dewis Centre for Independent Living is seeking two Personal Assistants to provide 2:1 support for a 20-year-old in the Ferndale area. The role includes enabling him to engage in activities he enjoys and accompanying him on outings to build independence.
Hours total 20 per week, split between two PAs, daytime hours with flexibility across 3–4 days. A trial period, National Insurance number, monthly pay and DBS check are required; costs covered by the employer.
I am a 20-year-old young man who lives in the Ferndale area with my mum and our dog. I enjoy playing video games, especially first-person shooter games on the PlayStation. I also like playing arcade games and I like watching gamer videos on YouTube. I have Autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance and can display some quite challenging behaviour.
I like to spend a lot of time alone and mum said I don't really see the need for the company of others. On occasion, I can be anxious and when I am, I tend to dust the house. I have developed my social skills, I enjoy going to Costa coffee, Dinosaur Park in Cardiff and I like to explore new things on my own terms.
I have little sense of danger; you may need to be aware of my movements if we are crossing the road as I can be unpredictable or not concentrate.
I do not like any bugs that fly, this is a big fear of mine and this can trigger my anxiety. In this situation, I need reassurance or moving away from the area.
I am looking for two Personal Assistants as I need 2:1 support as I finish college in December. I would like someone who can act as a buddy to me and encourage me to get out and about more to do the things I enjoy the most.
