Job summary

Strategic Mission Critical is seeking a Mid-Level Plumbing Engineer/Designer to execute plumbing design for mission critical data center projects. Responsibilities include using Autodesk Revit, designing sanitary, storm, and domestic water systems, and coordinating with electrical, architectural, and civil teams.

The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of plumbing design experience, familiarity with construction administration, and the ability to mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of plumbing design using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with large industrial and commercial buildings; mission-critical design a plus.
  • Experience from schematic design through construction administration.
  • MS Office and collaboration tools proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents from schematic design to construction.
  • Perform engineering calculations for sanitary, storm and domestic water systems.
  • Select and specify plumbing equipment.
  • Meet project deadlines and work necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
  • Coordinate with design leads and external teams (architectural, civil, structural).
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, designers and modelers.
  • Maintain organization and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

SMC is actively looking for Mid-Level Plumbing Engineer/Designer to execute plumbing design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and various system calculations.

This candidate shall be capable of executing basic plumbing design projects independently, taking established design criteria through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The candidate shall also be capable as serving as a key contributor in part of a larger plumbing design team on large and/or complex mission critical projects under the guidance of a senior engineer. The plumbing design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate should be capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC (electrical, telecommunications, fire protection, mechanical) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc.

Responsibilities

This candidate will have the opportunity to execute plumbing design of various project types while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines, as well as serve as the daily lead on smaller projects. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents from schematic design to construction.
  • Perform engineering calculation for all plumbing systems, including sanitary, storm and domestic water.
  • Select and specify plumbing equipment.
  • Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
  • Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications to grow a broader understanding of the construction process.
  • Have the ability to travel when required to project sites (approximately 10-20% travel).
  • Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff on various tasks.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, designers and modelers to assist in developing plumbing design knowledge base.
  • Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in plumbing design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
  • Experience in plumbing design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred, with experience in mission critical design a plus.
  • Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
  • Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams.
  • Have experience with Bluebeam.
  • Experience in using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.
