Job summary

HDR is seeking a Plumbing Designer to contribute to the Building Engineering Services Group in Arlington, VA. You will perform engineering tasks under a licensed engineer, producing design drawings and calculations for mechanical systems in commercial and federal facilities.

The role requires a degree in engineering, 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, and proficiency with CAD software. HDR emphasizes employee ownership and a collaborative, inclusive culture in a variety of project

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • ASPE CPD credential strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering assignments under supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Design tasks involving evaluation and application of engineering techniques.
  • Produce design drawings and construction documents via CAD and other software.
  • Prepare design or quantity calculations and specifications/contract documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned by supervising engineer.

In the role of Plumbing Designer, we'll count on you to:
  • Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures
  • Production of design drawings and construction documents through the use of computer aided design and other software
  • Preparation of design or quantity calculations
  • Preparation of specifications and contract documents
  • Coordination with other disciplines as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising engineer
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASPE Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) credential strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical system design of commercial, institutional, or federal buildings
  • Experience with the design of healthcare, laboratory, data center, aerospace, and/or federal/DOD facilities.
  • Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Mid-Atlantic (VA/MD/DC) Area
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
  • Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
