Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory seeks a journey-level Plumber/Pipefitter to layout, fabricate, install, and repair plant piping systems across LLNL facilities, including Site 300 in Tracy, CA. This is an on-site, full-time role in Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities.

Candidate must have an apprenticeship or equivalent, a high school diploma, and the ability to obtain a U.S. DOE Q-level clearance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with apprenticeship or journey-level plumbing experience.
  • Experience with plumbing systems, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related components in industrial facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret system drawings and use trade tools.

Responsibilities

  • Layout, fabricate, install, repair, and troubleshoot piping and equipment; leak detection; line locating; testing.
  • Assemble and secure pipes and fittings by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Repair and install underground utilities (water, sewer).
  • Plan work, perform hazard reviews, and use safety practices including lockout/tagout.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Plumber/Pipefitter to perform a wide variety of journey-level plumber/pipefitter activities including layout, fabrication, installation, and repair of plant piping systems designed to transport a variety of liquid and gaseous substances. You will provide minor modifications, alterations, and maintenance services including service plumbing to all Superblock facilities and utilities. This position is in the Maintenance Production Division within the Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department and may require work at Site 300 which is located in Tracy, California.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will
  • Layout, fabricate, install, repair, and troubleshoot commercial and industrial piping and equipment; leak detection; line locating, and testing of piping systems. Experience reading and working from system drawings and using tools and equipment of the plumber/pipefitter trade.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Repair and install underground mechanical utilities (city water, sewer, etc.).
  • Make decisions jointly with coworkers that involve techniques, guidelines, and procedures that are well defined.
  • Provide effective customer service, interacting with administrative, supervisory, and craft personnel.
  • Prepare standard reports including permits, deficiency forms, and preventative maintenance work requests.
  • Perform work planning and control activities including job planning, hazard reviews, lockout/tag out, and use of required personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, and radiation protection.
  • Use motor vehicles in the transport of materials throughout the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and completion of an apprenticeship training program and/or basic journey level skills, knowledge and experience in the field of service repair rough-in, top out and finish plumbing utilizing tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Basic journey-level skills, knowledge and experience installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing plumbing systems, piping, fixtures, valves, drains, pumps, and related components within a commercial, industrial, high hazard, or nuclear facility.
  • Knowledge and experience using measuring instruments, glue, solvents, and adhesives. and installation and repair of underground sanitary sewer systems.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and decision-making to provide best method to complete the task within well-defined guidelines.
  • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel and work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and associated software to complete timekeeping, emails, computer-based training logs reports, maintenance records, and project closeout documentation, including the ability to interpret related technical documents.
  • Ability to apply Environmental, Safety, & Health laws and regulations; and complete required training, including hazard reviews and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to wear required respiratory protection and perform work within a nuclear environment while following radiation protection and contamination control procedural requirements.
  • Prepare standard reports including permits, equipment inventory reports, deficiency forms, and preventative maintenance work requests.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience supporting facility systems in operational and construction environments, including installation, modifications, and upgrade activities.
  • Current certification in pipe welding.
  • Current certification in high-pressure installation.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code Book.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and technical documents, including plans, isometrics, specifications, and equipment manuals.
Pay Range

$45.74 - $55.60 Hourly

This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after your qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Davis Bacon Act

The Laboratory performs a variety of work, including some that may fall under Davis Bacon Act requirements. When work scope falls under this Act, the Laboratory complies with the prevailing wage requirements.

Pre-Employment Drug Test
