Job summary

Air Force Test Center in Florida seeks a journey-level plumber to inspect, install, repair, and modify water supply, sewage, gas, and oil distribution systems. You will read blueprints, ensure code compliance, and troubleshoot complex plumbing equipment while maintaining safety standards.

Primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of journey level plumbing duties to include inspections, installing, repairing, and modifying water supply, sewage disposal, gas distribution, oil lines, and similar utility systems and equipment.

Typical 2026 salary range: $68,328 to $79,869 Per Year

Major Duties:
  • Independently inspects, installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.
  • Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly.
  • Interprets and applies building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other plumbing guides/codes, and uses shop mathematics.
  • Troubleshoots/test various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principle devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross connection devices.
  • Reviews utility section work orders and drawing to determine materials and equipment needed to accomplish shop work orders.
  • Acts as utility sections primary technical expert, point of contact for authorizing field changes to work plans and determines technical viability of work plan changes in scope, nature, and resource requirements.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures by following established safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • This is a designated random Drug Testing Position.
  • Must be able to pass a preemployment physical.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • Must have a valid drivers license. Emergency overtime/shift work may be required.
