Job summary

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is seeking a Plumber II in the Building & Structures (Trade Shops) section to perform skilled plumbing and gas fitting work, installing and maintaining piping in line with WSSC and national fuel codes across over 430 park buildings.

You will supervise Plumbers, Trades Trainees, and Maintenance Workers, coordinate with a team, and work with limited supervision as needed. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and generous paid time off.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved plumbing/gas fitting apprentice program or four years of progressive experience.
• Two years of journey-level experience.
• Valid Journey Plumber License and Gas Fitter Certification.
• Valid driver's license; CDL may be required depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled plumbing and gas fitting work in compliance with codes.
• Install, maintain, repair, replace, or modify plumbing and gas systems.
• Assign and check work of Plumbers, Trades Trainees and Maintenance Workers.

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In both counties we manage the park systems, but in Prince George’s County we also develop the public’s recreation programs.

Under the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George’s County. We have six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry (Roads & Grounds), Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds, ADA, Aquatics and Sustainability) and the Administrative section.

This position is in the Building & Structures (Trade Shops) section which consists of Electric, HVACR, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry, and Welding, Property Management, and the Exhibit Shop. This section performs preventive maintenance, routine and emergency repair, renovations and alterations to over 430 park buildings and structures.

You will perform a full range of difficult skilled plumbing and gas fitting work, using a variety of tools and equipment to install, maintain, repair, replace, or modify plumbing systems and natural gas and propane piping systems, in compliance with WSSC codes and national fuel codes. You will assign and check the work of Plumbers, Trades Trainees, and Maintenance Workers.

The ability to coordinate the work of others effectively and to work without direct supervision is very important, along with the ability to function in a team environment.

(Salary $52,549 - $72,810 - $93,069) (Work Hours are 6:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.)

• High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
• Completion of an approved plumbing/gas fitting apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience.
• Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which togethertotal six (6) years.
• Valid Journey Plumber License and Gas Fitter Certification issued by appropriate local jurisdiction.
• Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points thatcould limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving dutiesrequired by the position of assignment.
• Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required.
• Pass Commission medical examination.
