Job summary

Lexington Health is seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician with a focus on plumbing for our hospital facilities in South Carolina. The role includes installation, repair, and inspection of plumbing systems, along with coordinating extensive repairs with equipment vendors.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and at least 3 years of maintenance experience, plus a plumbing certification/licensure. On-site work with day-shift hours is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Makes general installation and repairs of water, steam, vacuum, compressed gases, sewerage, drainage, and automatic sprinkler lines and systems.
  • Inspects connections and other parts of systems for leaks, repairs, damage and replaces as needed.
  • Troubleshoots Sterile Processing Instrument washers, robotic conveyor system, sterilizers, cart washers, ultrasonic washers, nitrogen system, etc.
  • Installations and repairs to medical gas systems including branch piping and main equipment pumps and compressors.
  • Constructs and repairs building parts and fixtures; coordinates with personnel to plan/execute tasks.
  • Maintains safety and infection control requirements; leads teams when assigned.
  • Maintains skills and coordinates with personnel for task completion.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of skilled tasks that includes but is not limited to construction and maintenance of hospital facilities and equipment. Primary emphasis will be in the plumbing field. Also serves as technical advisor to other mechanics.

Essential Functions
  • Makes general installation and repairs of water, steam, vacuum, compressed gases, sewerage, drainage, and automatic sprinkler lines and systems. Able to install "pro-press" copper fittings. Able to solder and braze copper pipe joints.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, plumbing fixtures, and such apparatus as pumps and gauges. Inspect backflow prevention devices.
  • Inspects connections and other parts of systems for leaks, repairs, damage and replaces as needed.
  • Works on both low and high temperature and pressure piping and equipment.
  • Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs to Sterile Processing Instrument washers, robotic conveyor system, sterilizers, cart washers, ultrasonic washers, nitrogen system, etc. Coordinate extensive repairs with equipment vendors.
  • Repair wheel chairs and stretchers. Including troubleshooting, ordering correct parts and performing repairs. Repair and install pneumatic control systems and troubleshoot and repair LMC’s pneumatic tube systems.
  • Installations and repairs to medical gas systems including branch piping and main equipment pumps and compressors. Receive on the job training to prepare for medical gas installation certification.
  • Constructs and repairs building parts and fixtures, furniture and special equipment; inspects worksite to determine work to be done, calculates quantities of materials needed and requisitions hardware and supplies; performs such other tasks as necessary to complete the work, using hand and power tools. Locksmith functions, including cutting keys and repairs to door hardware.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Evaluate work orders and project requirements and coordinate with appropriate personnel to plan/execute completion of the task.
  • Works with minimal supervision with projects such as; erecting walls/ infection control barriers, applying plasterboards, repairing or installing building fixtures such as; doors, locks, windows, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment. Must be able to produce a finished product.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment indigenous to facilities construction and maintenance such as pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sawzall, phase rotation meter, voltmeter, etc.
  • Assists as assigned with construction projects where his/her expertise is needed.
  • Works as a team member to ensure both hospital and work area safety at all times and in accordance with infection control requirements.
  • Trains, instructs, and directs helpers and coworkers and as assigned, assists other trades in building maintenance operations.
  • Head work teams on projects as assigned by manager.
  • Assure maintenance and construction projects conform to all regulatory code requirements (DHEC, NFPA, etc.). Keeps department informed of non-conformities.
  • Maintains skills current and project requirements and coordinate with appropriate personnel to plan/execute completion of the task.
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Shows courtesy, compassion, and respect. Conforms to Service Excellene Policy and "House Rules."
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs to plant operations equipment such as Boilers, Chillers, and Emergency Generators. Performs required regulatory testing of emergency equipment.
  • Work rotating "on-call" shifts per policy and as assigned. When "On-Call", must be knowledgeable/trained in all systems to understand error codes, notice performance failures, and contact appropriately personnel or vendors. As needed, may be required to troubleshoot equipment with electronic components, making routine and emergency repairs on a variety of mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
