Job Title: Plumber

Division: Plumbing

Direct Reports To: Project Manager and/or Service Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Average Work Hours: Approx. 40 hours per week plus on call service & nights & weekends as needed

Summary

Our plumbers are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in various commercial properties.

Plumbers work in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of all projects. Providing exceptional services will ensure that all water supply networks, waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and components.
  • Identify required tools and special equipment.
  • Locate and mark positions using technology.
  • Install supports and hangers for pipes, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assemble and install valves and fittings.
  • Install, repair and maintain water treatment equipment, piping and controls.
  • Install, repair and maintain sinks, tubs and toilets.
  • Install, repair and maintain water heaters and conditioners.
  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing fixtures, appliances and trim.
  • Test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks.
  • Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Apply all codes to installations, repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met.
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported and graded.
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meets the requirements of the appropriate codes.
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements.

  • Establish effective working relationships with employees.
  • Accept on call rotation when assigned and assist on call primary tech if needed in any capacity.
  • Must have basic tools to preform job description.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Work with Project Manager when necessary for clarification on jobs.
  • Maintain exceptional customer service skills.
  • Complete job tickets and mileage logs accurately and thoroughly on a daily basis.
  • Record the use of truck stock that is used on respective job tickets.
  • CGP employees will follow guidelines that will protect the interest and safety of all employees and the organization as well as ensure job site etiquette.
  • Company provided uniforms are always to be worn.
  • Proper work boots are always to be worn.
  • Employees must present themselves in a professional manner: No foul language, use of cell phones only when necessary and not in the presence of clients, in stores or while driving, and being prepared when arriving on site to begin work.
  • Always inform client when the task has been completed or when leaving the job site.
  • Company vehicles must be parked in the proper location on the job site. Never park in front of clients’ main entry.
  • Work area must be clean upon departure; good housekeeping is part of the job.
  • Do not block aisles, traffic lanes, fire exists, stairs, etc.
  • Do not use tools with split, broken, or loose handles. Keep cutting tools sharp and carry all tools in the proper fashion.
  • Never do anything that is unsafe in order to get the job done.
  • Use your personal protective equipment whenever it is required.
  • Know the correct use of hand power tools. Use the right tool for the job.
  • Inspect ladders before use and make sure they are safe before using.

Physical Demands

The Plumbers may spend long hours outside and in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain. The plumber will be lifting and adjusting heavy objects, and will come in contact, with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment. The Plumber must maintain safety procedures at all times to avoid injury. Plumbers may also come in contact with potential poisons and gases that could cause injury or illness.

Sensory Demands

Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with sewer and water, exposure to the sounds associated with power tools and construction sites, and exposure to dust and other debris associated with the use of power tools and construction sites all which can cause sensory strain including headaches.

Mental Demands

The Plumber will need to concentrate in busy environments. They will be ordering equipment and supplies and scheduling work. The plumber may be called out at odd hours or have to work long hours in cases of emergency maintenance and repairs.

Minimum Skills
  • Must have basic plumbing skills (e.g. replace faucets, unclog toilets, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting and identifying mystery leaks, backups, etc.
  • Expert Jetting service both low and high pressure.
  • Expert at operating drain camera equipment.
  • Must be a quick learner.
  • Must have ability to use basic hand tools and other equipment.
  • Must be able to follow verbal or written directions.
  • Must be a safe driver.
  • Must be able to pick up and deliver supplies/materials.
  • Must be neat, clean and organized in the shop, company vehicle and job sites.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work as required.
  • Communication skills with dispatch/office.
  • Understand and use the different check in/check out requirements for each client.
  • Ability to understand NTE’s and work with Project Administrator/Service Coordinator in getting increases when necessary.

Education & Experience
  • 2 to 5 years plumbing service/drain cleaning trade experience with like industry such as property management, hospitality, retail, or restaurant facility services.
  • College or tech school attendance is a plus.
  • Related seminars, classes, courses, training with “certificates of completion” are a plus.
  • Participate in relevant/appropriate training programs as requested by the company.
