Job summary

INNOVEYANCE in Mitchell, Indiana seeks an Installation Technician to assemble and install material handling systems.

You will read master schedules, assemble and install hardware from blueprints, configure PLCs, troubleshoot RSLogix, use AutoCAD, and perform on-site demonstrations and training for customers.

Travel is required; you must lift up to 50 lbs, work with safety procedures, and collaborate with teams to support continuous system improvements.

Qualifications

  • Two year degree in PLC programming preferred.
  • Experience reading ladder logic and electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and RSLogix is a plus.

Provides assembly and installation labor for material handling systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reads and applies the master schedule to plan daily activities
  • Assembles/installs product using mechanical and electrical blueprints/schematics, operator instruction worksheets, and/or verbal order
  • Connects PLCs to equipment
  • Troubleshoots RSLogix and makes adjustments to programs as needed:adds rungs to programs, changes timers, and downloads new programs
  • Identifies, inventories, and obtains material for operations to be performed
  • Programs, sets-up and troubleshoots PLC programs
  • Reads, writes and uses ladder logic using Allen Bradley RS500 and RS5000
  • Uses AutoCAD as required
  • Fastens parts together with screws, clamps, nuts, industrial glue, or other components with or without tools
  • Removes materials with or without tools
  • Observes conveyor operation to detect work piece defects; performs quality checks
  • Completes all functions in a timely manner and produces quality work
  • Provides demonstration and training to the customer
  • Provides service, trouble shooting, and field modifications to existing systems
  • Possesses personal hand tools and tool box according to the employee handbook
  • Performs safety and housekeeping duties
  • Participates in required training and applies safety skills/knowledge
  • Participates in continuous improvement teams and/or empowerment teams
  • Utilizes measuring, gauging and other quality tools as required
  • Accurately completes required documentation
  • Participates in training of co-workers in all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Installation Supervisor or Installation Coordinator
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates proficiency in PLC programming, set-up and trouble shooting; 2 year degree in PLC programming preferred
  • Demonstrates familiarity in Allen Bradley RS500 and RS5000 as well as RSLinx
  • Demonstrates proficiency in AutoCAD (current versions)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as XP Pro, Vista, Excel, Microsoft Office Project, Word
  • Demonstrates proficiency in reading and writing ladder logic
  • Demonstrates proficiency in reading ladder diagrams, including being able to trace through drawings, wiring numbers, and cross-referencing
  • Demonstrates familiarity with material handling systems design (or equivalent) preferred
  • Possesses and applies basic knowledge of automated control systems
  • Possesses and applies skill and ability to read mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics and circuit drawings and use them to troubleshoot/find problems
  • Possesses and applies basic industrial electrical, control, and mechanical aptitude
  • Possesses and applies ability to troubleshoot electrical controls and circuits using a voltmeter and a methodical logical approach, as well
  • Possesses and applies abilityto perform live voltage test of electrical control circuits using voltmeter
  • Possesses and applies ability to find shorts (dead short, stuck contacts, indications and causes)
  • Possesses skill and ability to recognize and explain the operation of the control circuits used as well as the components widely used in control circuits
  • Demonstrates proficiency in reading tape measures and other measuring devices
  • Demonstrates ability to use a level and/or laser and layout equipment using geometry
  • Demonstrates proficiency in basic mathematics (fractions, decimals, conversions, etc.)
  • Possesses and applies skill and ability to use hand electric/pneumatic tools
  • Previous installation and travel experience preferred
  • Demonstrates willingness to work long hours and travel
  • Demonstrates ability to work well with others
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn with on-the-job training provided
  • Possesses valid driver’s license
  • Possesses a US Passport or has ability/is willing to obtain one
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and other international locations for extended periods of time.
  • This position will require the following: walking, sitting, kneeling, using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects/tools/controls, using vibratory tools, reaching with hands and arms, balancing, stooping, talking and hearing.
  • This person will be required to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this person may be exposed to a noise level that may exceed 70 decibals; therefore, hearing protection may be required.
  • Due to contact with customers, this person must maintain professional appearance and good hygiene.
