Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a PLC SCADA Technician to join our team in El Segundo, CA. You will design, install, maintain, and repair industrial electrical and electronic control systems, working with maintenance teams and contractors.

The role requires strong PLC troubleshooting and willingness to work various shifts as needed. You’ll collaborate across Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Engineering to ensure compliant, reliable plant performance, with a focus on safety and efficiency at water

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience with PLCs and VFDs.
  • Experience with Parker drives.
  • Network experience with switches and Ethernet IP.
  • Experience in modifying HMIs.
  • Experience with tuning PIDs.
  • Experience with winding machines.
  • Knowledge of industrial power design, including distribution, motor control and VFDs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, and other components.
  • Ability to read P&ID's and wiring diagrams to locate and repair plant systems.
  • Ability to work with multiple groups to diagnose equipment malfunction.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing electrical components.
  • Experience installing conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and respond to emergencies.
  • Willingness to work after hours and participate in plant shutdowns as needed.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License with no major infractions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, development, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of industrial electrical and electronic control systems.

  • Ensure operations under general supervision with occasional guidance.
  • Manage log of OOS equipment status and CMMS work orders.

Jacobs is searching for a dynamic PLC SCADA Technician to join our team in El Segundo, CA. In this role, you'll be responsible for the design, development, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of industrial electrical and electronic control systems. You’ll work alone and with different teams that can include Maintenance Technicians, Production Engineers, Operators/Supervisors, and Contractors. In this position you’ll be expected to work under general supervision, receiving occasional instruction or assistance as new or atypical situations arise. This role requires strong electrical and PLC troubleshooting skills.

Principal Areas of Responsibility
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment and/or water treatment, engineering, principles and methods of scientific research, current advances in the field of water reclamation and groundwater replenishment, computer hardware and software applications for the operation of an advanced water reclamation facility, general administrative principles and practices, and methods of supervision
  • Interface with state regulatory agencies, fill out necessary forms and assure correctness. Ultimately be accountable for compliance and the efficient and effective operations of the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility, three (3) satellite facilities and the Hyperion Pumping Station
  • Must be readily accessible to supervisors and their direct reports during all shifts
  • Must have detailed and comprehensive knowledge of various treatment processes and associated equipment including conventional and advanced water and/or wastewater treatment, microfiltration, reverse osmosis, ozone, uv, nitrification, solids handling and all supporting processes
  • Routinely monitor and assess the treatment processes operating parameters including their manual and automatic control functions and validate or supervise necessary adjustments ensuring the treatment processes are operated in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Provide support and guidance in capital projects, Research & Development projects, plant improvement projects
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in proper operational conditions and supervises work order entry into CMMS to ensure proper triggering of maintenance activities and keeping a log of OOS (out-of-service) critical equipment status
  • Oversee and ensure the prompt diagnosis of operational issues, the maintaining of operational and compliance records, reports and log sheets and the proper storage
  • Drive and oversee the updating and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reviews existing SOPs on a regular basis
  • Interact and coordinate with, and support Operations/Maintenance staff, Laboratory staff, Engineering staff, and the administrative staff to perform related responsibilities
  • Complete written and electronic records (i.e., work orders, calibration sheets, timecards, material requests) required to document work in progress and work completed.

  • Ability to work with a variety of groups to diagnose equipment malfunction in a timely manner
  • Experience with installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing electronic and electrical components of equipment and machinery
  • Experience with installing conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making minor additions, extensions or alterations in industrial electrical systems
  • Experience recognizing safety hazards and ability to follow safety guidelines for personal protection and protection of fellow workers
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations as needed, including after hours
  • Ability to participate in plant shutdowns as needed, including holidays and weekends
  • Valid CA Driver’s License with no major infractions required

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The work area can involve a working environment indoors, as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. Safety is of the utmost importance. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination when preparing reports and using a computer keyboard, have vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents and operate office equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour time period must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

The base salary range for this position is $76,700.00 to $109,700.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
