Job summary

Trident Seafoods seeks an experienced PLC Controls Technician to install, troubleshoot, and support automated processing equipment across our facilities. You’ll evaluate equipment performance, guide improvements, and coordinate with vendors and supervisors to ensure reliable operation.

The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance, reading schematics, and implementing SOPs. An emphasis on safety and cross-functional collaboration is essential for success in our high‑volume seafood processing

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with industrial controls/automation installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • 1-year certificate in maintenance related field or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (500, 5000, Studio, Factory Talk View HMIs)
  • Experience calibrating weighing systems
  • 5+ years experience with industrial automation troubleshooting and repair of food processing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install and support automated processing equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Inspect equipment and assess performance against standards.
  • Advise on equipment performance and process improvements.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair and coordinate with vendors.
  • Read schematics and programs to troubleshoot controls systems.

Responsibilities

Summary: The PLC Controls Technician will install and provide support and troubleshooting for Trident's new and existing automated processing equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects existing automated equipment and assesses performance in relation to standards.
  • Troubleshoots issues and insufficiencies in performance and guides or performs adjustments.
  • Advises management regarding equipment performance, and suggestions for equipment and process improvements.
  • Supports maintenance and/or repair of equipment as needed.
  • Confers with vendors, supervisor, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Enters information into computer to copy program or to draw, modify, or store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used.
  • Assists with implementation and/or monitoring of SOP's and ensures location staff is trained to standards.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to troubleshoot, maintain and install process controls systems.
  • Operates equipment to demonstrate use of equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
  • Determines feasibility of using standardized equipment and develops specifications for equipment required to perform additional functions.
  • Acquires working knowledge of Trident's warehouse management system (EAM) including the requisition and asset management experience
  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with industrial controls/automation installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • One year certificate in maintenance related field from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Education & Experiences:

  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (500, 5000, Studio, Factory Talk View HMI, Power Flex)
  • Experience calibrating weighing systems
  • 5 years’ experience with industrial automation troubleshooting, adapting and repair of food processing equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Working knowledge of PLC system design, troubleshooting, programming, logic commands, software and hardware from a variety of PLC manufacturers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate process measurement equipment
  • Ability to adapt current PLC systems to changing plant needs
  • Basic network troubleshooting skills (Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP IP)
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, diagrams and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments

Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job employees will be exposed to warm humid environments as well as short term exposure to freezing temperatures.
