Veritas Automation Solutions is looking for a full-time Automation/Controls Engineer who is confident working hands-on in industrial environments and capable of taking ownership of PLC, HMI, and SCADA work from troubleshooting and improving existing systems to developing and commissioning new automation solutions.
We are looking for a self-motivated, adaptable engineer who approaches problems systematically, learns new technologies quickly, communicates clearly, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a project team.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to expand their technical capabilities, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute directly to customer projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial automation company.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Program, modify, debug, test, and document PLC systems across multiple platforms.
- Develop PLC applications using ladder logic, structured text, and other programming methods as appropriate.
- Build, modify, troubleshoot, and support HMI and SCADA applications.
- Evaluate existing control systems, understand how they operate, and develop practical solutions before making changes.
- Troubleshoot equipment, PLCs, field devices, industrial networks, and control systems both remotely and in live production environments.
- Perform onsite testing, startup, commissioning, and customer support.
- Work directly with customer engineers, technicians, operators, and project managers to resolve technical issues and deliver effective automation solutions.
- Take ownership of defined controls work from requirements and development through testing, startup, commissioning, and customer turnover.
- Plan assigned work, communicate project status and technical risks, and escalation significant technical, schedule, or customer issues early.
- Produce clear documentation that allows systems to be maintained and supported by others.
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of relevant PLC, controls, or industrial automation experience.
- Hands-on experience installing, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, field devices, and associated wiring.
- Strong proficiency with at least one major PLC platform, such as:
- CODESYS
- Rockwell Automation
- Siemens
- Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar PLC platforms and technologies quickly.
- Experience developing PLC applications using ladder logic; structured text experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, technical documentation, I/O information, and control-system documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose problems systematically and develop effective solutions under pressure.
- Ability to independently manage defined engineering work while recognizing when technical, schedule, safety, or customer issues should be escalated.
- Sound engineering judgment with consideration for reliability, maintainability, safety, schedule, and cost.
- Strong communication, documentation, ownership, and follow-through habits.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, technicians, engineers, operators, and internal project teams.
Bonus Skills/Experience:
- EtherNet/IP
- OPC UA
- Node-RED
- Telegram or other industrial communication technologies
- Ignition or other SCADA platforms
- Python or related software-development experience
- Motion control and servo applications
- Technical or design reviews
- Mentoring junior engineers or technicians
Work Location & Travel:
- Preference for individuals in the DFW & Austin Metropolitan areas.
- When not working at a customer site, employees may work from their home/remote office.
- Travel is required for project execution, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, customer support, and field-service activities.
