Job summary

Alaka'i O Kaua'i Charter School is seeking a reliable Playground Monitor to supervise students during recess and lunch, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. The role also provides essential administrative support to the school office.

This part-time, 19-hour-per-week position pays $21.00 per hour and is on-site, outdoors on the playground with occasional indoor tasks; benefits are not included. Schedule may flex for school events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Previous experience working with children or in an office/administrative setting preferred.
• Ability to model positive behavior and conflict resolution strategies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to remain calm and attentive in a dynamic school environment.
• Ability to safely lift 40lbs.
• Ability to safely stand and walk for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess and lunch periods, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful play environment.
• Promote and model positive behaviors, including safe, responsible, and respectful actions consistent with Teaching with Love and Logic strategies.
• Facilitate fair play and conflict resolution among students, encouraging cooperation, inclusion and sharing of equipment.
• Monitor and manage playground equipment, reporting any maintenance needs.
• Maintain a visible and attentive presence on the playground to ensure student safety at all times.
• Clean lunch tables and restock safety supplies.
• Facilitate bus pick-up and drop-off.
• Provide essential administrative support to the school office team.

Key Responsibilities

• Playground Supervision
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch periods, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful play environment.
  • Promote and model positive behaviors, including safe, responsible, and respectful actions consistent with the book "Teaching with Love and Logic" by Fay & Fay strategies.
  • Facilitate fair play and conflict resolution among students, encouraging cooperation, inclusion and sharing of equipment.
  • Monitor and manage playground equipment, reporting any maintenance needs.

Working Conditions

• $21.00/hr.
• This is a part-time, hourly position working 19 hours per week.
• This position does not include benefits or paid time off.
• Work primarily involves being outdoors for playground supervision and indoors for office support tasks.
• Schedule flexibility may be required for school events or operational needs.
