Originally built in 1986 and renovated in 2014, Poppy Hills Golf Course was the first course in the United States to be owned and operated by an amateur golf association, currently serving as the headquarters and tournament home of the NCGA. Bringing together breathtaking design, the NCGA’s high standard of course conditioning and hospitality and golf’s greatest landscape, Poppy Hills welcomes you to put the busy world behind you and surround yourself in nature. Each uniquely crafted hole is chiseled through the towering Monterey Pines of the Del Monte Forest, offering sneak peaks of the beautiful and iconic Monterey Bay and a chance to watch playful young deer among the freshly sprung California Poppy.

The Player Ambassador & Starter position is expected to be willing and able to inform guests of on‑course expectations while playing Poppy Hills in an effort to improve their overall experience. This position will foster a welcoming atmosphere, share pertinent daily information, encourage maintenance practices, and maintain punctual start times and pace of play. Applicants must have excellent communication and organizational skills and present a positive image of the organization while fulfilling responsibilities. This position will be assigned Starter responsibilities on the 1st or 10th tee as needed and/or Player Ambassador responsibilities on the golf course as needed for the operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, welcoming and professional first interaction with all players.
• Welcoming all players to the facility while introducing yourself as the Player Ambassador or Starter.
• Run the starting tee efficiently with players receiving all the information that is pertinent to the day as well as the important aspects of our pace of play.
• Offer course information, guidance, and policies, prior to getting the players teed off.
• Player Ambassadors will monitor pace of play while setting a positive tone that emphasizes service.
• Help all groups to finish play in a timely manner while enhancing the player experience.
• Offer on‑course assistance to all players as needed, including forecaddie, raking bunkers, spotting balls, whatever can be done to help them maintain pace while enjoying their golf.
• Responsible for maintaining continuous contact with the golf professional staff regarding pace conditions, group interaction and any other issues.
• Promote an operation that is run in a safe and secure manner.
• Other duties as assigned, including special projects.

Required Qualifications

• Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
• Good communication skills both verbally and written.
• Ability to communicate in the English language.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.

Work Schedule

• Individual shifts will vary, but standard hours for the position begin one (1) hour before the first tee time and shifts end as late as the final tee time of the day.
• Must be able and willing to work one (1) closing Player Ambassador shift every two (2) weeks.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position, with a starting salary of $16.90 per hour. Some clothing will be provided, with the employee expected to source and maintain a high‑standard of attire at all times. Participation in the company’s 401(k) plan after 30 days of employment. Sick leave, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.
