Job summary

Medeco Security Locks, a business unit of the ASSA ABLOY Group, is seeking a Plating and Pre-Finish Operator for the 2nd shift in Salem, VA. You will operate plating machines, manage chemical baths, and support waste treatment to produce high-security locks.

No prior plating experience is required, but you will be safety-focused, detail-oriented, and able to follow a defined manufacturing process with teamwork and strong communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills; read dispatch reports and use a computer.
• Able to lift 40 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
• Able to learn to operate plating/prefinish equipment.
• Plating experience not required but able to learn under minimal supervision.
• Team environment and effective communication are essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate the metal plating machine and maintain chemical baths and cleaners.
• Assist with the waste treatment system.
• Rack and prepare parts for plating.
• Strip and rework brass and steel.
• Perform clear coat, buffing, sanding, scouring, and related processes.
• Review titration tests and adjust processes as needed.
• Monitor plating quality and notify supervisor of issues.
• Maintain paperwork and uphold 5S in plating area.
• Participate in team meetings to improve performance and safety.

Job Class: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Status: Full-Time

Reports To: Plating Area Manager

Pay Range: $19.30/hr - $25.36/hr (DOE, includes $1.50 shift differential)

Position Summary:

Join our team as a Plating Machine Operator on the 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.) with potential overtime. You'll operate the metal plating machine and coordinate the waste treatment process, contributing to the manufacturing of high-security locks and supporting our mission to make the world a safer place. This is a technical position and while no experience is required, the successful applicant will be safety-focused and detail-oriented with the ability to closely follow a defined manufacturing process.

Essential Functions:

• Operate the metal plating machine and maintain all associated chemical baths and cleaners.
• Assist with the waste treatment system.
• Rack and prepare parts for plating.
• Strip and rework both brass and steel.
• Perform the clear coat process as well as all buffing, sanding, scouring, relieving, vibratory, and rolling processes.
• Review titration tests for the electroless nickel process and adjust accordingly.
• Monitor the quality of plating and take action when issues arise by notifying the supervisor or area engineer.
• Keep all paperwork organized with the product being processed
• Maintain the 5S program for the plating area.
• Participate in team meetings to improve team performance, solve problems, and enhance safety.
• Perform additional duties as required.
• Perform responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills. Must be able to read and understand dispatch reports and access information on a computer.
• Able to move to various workstations and lift at 40 pounds on a regular basis and 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
• Able to learn to operate equipment in Plating and Prefinish areas. Including but not limited to sanding, buffing and grinding equipment.
• Plating experience is not required but must be able to learn and become productive under minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with other team members.
